The result released in the just concluded WAEC examination had put more salt on the nation’s wound, with mass failure recorded, over 70percent. I wept bitterly inside of me seeing the future of our young generation unpromising, and a sector of the economy pointing accusing finger to another just as if the latter had caused the problem. I could recall vividly while we were preparing for WAEC, I attended a public school which since way back till date will never cover their syllabuses, it seems almost like the 13weeks is never enough for a term, because I look back to the 11 active academic weeks of every term and find out we still got a lot on ground we hadn’t cover. My fear was to come out with good grades so I put in much effort by attending extra-moral classes which to much account was beneficial. The West Africa Examination Council have not change their standard of setting examination questions, rather I see it as though the student are not well prepared to take on the challenge that had await them, and the education sector had allowed incompetent hands as teachers to take these pupils. Instead of introducing new subject to further beautify the school curriculum, why don’t they introduce good hands, new teaching techniques and conducive learning environment. Before now, what we have were few schools with good result to show for the hardwork that both the teachers and the pupils had put in, now what we have are people with no education background building schools all around and turning the education sector into a big mess. During my youth service, I stumbled upon a lot of potholes in the education sector of our country for I was opportuned to had served in a secondary school, a lot of schools “private schools” in the community were I served use corp members year in year out as subject teachers. In conclusion, to curb these menace and put an end to the unforseable consequences that awaits us. The Government had to lay down good academic policies that are of great benefit to the pupils, the parent on their own part should endeavour to put away vices that could cause distractions and put in place measures that would guaranty success, evaluate them before the exam proper, if they can’t they should get a capable hand to these. Whats your Take on this? What do you think should be done to give the Nigerian education Sector a New Face? Your View!!!!!
