“Police is your friend,” an officer would proudly say.
“Go tell that to the marines,” is the likely reply he would get anywhere outside a
police station.
We are now outside a station, specifically at Maryland junction, where the men-in-
black/blue/camouflage/orange are going about their ‘duties’.
Some are controlling traffic but our ‘specimen’ for experiment are those flagging
down vehicles and asking for their particulars and other ‘things’ of interest.
We spot a rather cheerful one in their midst and conclude he would be our ideal Man
Friday – the one to tell us the reason for the seeming animosity between the police
and the policed. We are right.
Note: We narrowed our ‘research topic’ to altercation during ‘stop and search’ for ease
of…writing!
So, here are the six things you do that annoy a police officer on ‘stop and search’.
1. NO ‘HELLO’ OR ‘HI’
If we stop you for routine check while driving or walking, we don’t like you calling a
so-called superior officer of ours on the phone. The worst part is handing us the
phone to continue a conversation we didn’t initiate. Imagine this awkward chat:
So-called Superior Officer: Yes, who are you please?
Me: Who are you too, please SIR?
SSO: It seems you want to lose your job. Do you know who you are talking with?
Me: I don’t know; that’s why I’m asking SIR
SSO: The person you are harassing…
Me: (cuts in) Harassing? I’m just doing my job…
SSO: (cuts in) Which job? The job you are about losing? My friend, will you release
him immediately before I call Alausa?
Me: Ok sir. Ok sir.
I hand over the phone as well as your incomplete papers. You smile but I know it
deserves a punch in return. Who am I to do that in broad daylight? I mark your face
and car, though.
2. USE, MISUSE, AND ABUSE OF ‘ESPRIT DE CORPS’
You, a bloody civilian, just blurt out those words ‘Esprit de Corp’ once we flag you
down. You are not a police officer. Neither are you in the navy, army, or air force.
You are not even in the civil defence or boys scout. Perhaps I could forgive you if
you are a staff of LASTMA!
“Esprit de Corps, Esprit de Corps,” you look so learned and educated yet you don’t
know the meaning of the words.
Let me educate you.
When we say those words, we are referring to the common spirit existing among
members of a group that inspires enthusiasm, devotion, and strong regard for the
honour of the group. It’s like feelings of loyalty, enthusiasm, and devotion to a
group among people who are members of the group.
You and I are not in the same category, sorry, group.
3. GALLANT MOPOL AND OTHER FUNNY BANNERS AND
STICKERS
Related to the point above are the funny banners and stickers you hang on your
front mirror and windscreen.
Gallant Mopol! Navy! Army! They announce.
Sometimes, we are magnanimous enough and listen to your explanation that the
vehicle actually belongs to your father’s uncle’s son in the army, but most times,
you allow your ‘Gallant Mopol’ to intoxicate you with Dutch courage and challenge
our ‘audacity to stop’ you.
That’s when we remind you that you are a bloody civilian after all!
4. ‘DON’T YOU KNOW I AM A LAWYER’ AND OTHERS WHO KNOW
THEIR RIGHTS
“Don’t you know I’m a lawyer? I know my rights and if you infringe on my rights, I’ll
sue you. Sue the IG; sue the federal government.”
We have no problem with you being a lawyer or knowing your rights as a citizen of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In fact, we love relating to learned gentlemen and women who have a copy of the
1999 Constitution resting above their dashboard. It shows you read and we know
readers are leaders.
What we don’t like is you acting ungentlemanly; screaming like a drug peddler in a
commercial bus just to pass your message across. We love your energy but we
believe it can be put to better use – like in the courtroom.
5. TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED
…and do yourself no harm!
Sorry, for corrupting Ist Chronicles 16:22, but it best explains how I may react if you
go beyond using your speech organs in our interaction.
It’s so disrespectful touching an officer on the chin, shoulder, waist, wherever, just
because you want to buttress your point.
I could choose to ignore your insults, stare, and any other ‘tactic’ you adopt as
survival mechanism while with us.
I won’t ignore your touch.
6. IT IS MY OFFICE FOR PETE’S SAKE
However you view it, I’m in my office when on the road and you must respect my
office, notwithstanding that it’s on the road.
When you go to a bank, do you fill deposit slip when withdrawing cash?
When you go to a hospital, do you prescribe drugs and injection that the doctor and
nurse will administer on you?
Why then do you treat my office with contempt? Why can’t you obey simple
instructions?
What’s difficult in comprehending: ‘’Can I see your vehicle particulars?’’
You know your vehicle insurance has expired, so why wait until you are asked?
We are here to serve you and believe me: ‘’Police is you friend

Nigeria Will Have The Highest Number Of Child Brides In 2050- UNICEF
According to UNICEF’s latest report, Nigeria will have the highest number of child brides by year 2050 with the way underage girls are married off.
“In Africa, Nigeria is expected to have the largest absolute number of child brides. The country has seen a decline in child marriage of about one per cent per year over the past three decades. At this pace, the total number of child brides is expected to double by 2050,” the report stated.
In Mauritania and Nigeria, more than half of adolescent girls aged 15 to 19, who are currently married, have husbands who are 10 or more years older than they are.
They are often married off to considerably older men. And sadly, more than 700 million women alive today were married before their 18th birthday

Rapper Reminisce & Vector Ends Beef – Set To Release New Single Together
These two rappers had beef for a long time, and actually made diss tracks for each other. Reminisce made two or three diss tracks for Vector, while Vector made one indirectly dissing Reminisce. Heard the beef started after Vector made a song with Saucekid and said something in the track Reminisce thought was for him, so made a diss track for Vector.
Anyway, all that is in the past as they met and reconciled at an album launch where they both went to perform on 30th December in Uyo. Heard they will be getting into the studio sometime soon to do a song together.
2014 is the year of no beef! It’s really not worth it.
No More! Jim Iyke Says He Is Done With Nollywood
Fiery Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke has come out to tell us why he is no more acting in Nigeria….
Nigerian bad boy actor, Jim Iyke, says he is done with acting in Nollywood as the movies produced in Nigeria are all boring, lacks maturity, is predictable and with very poor story lined.
Jim, who has relocated to Ghana and is now shooting his own reality show, Jim Iyke Unscripted, said Nollywood movies are not challenging enough and as such, they suck and he can’t be a part of the rot going on in the industry.
Read what he said in a recent interview:
Nollywood is no more challenging. The industry is too easy and too perpetual. It is too boring and too predictable. I was doing 38 films in a year and at a point, I had to back out.
The sad part is that the practitioners do not even recognise the most basic of their fundamental rights. How can you ask, when you don’t understand what you’re asking for?
The ones that do understand and fight to the helm of affairs are busy fighting each other and developing schemes to enrich their shallow pockets.
Is Jim telling the truth here?-

Amosun Case:- Man Jailed For Attacking Governor On Facebook
The court hearings of Governor Ibikunle Amosun vs Mr Wasiu Ogunnoiki case at Sagamu Magistrate’s court, Ogun State, continued on September 2, 2014, Tuesday.
The accused has allegedly used his account to publish information that property owners, whose houses were demolished as per Amosun’s order, did not receive any proper compensation.
Ogunnoiki was also accused of uploading pictures of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sagamu Local Government Area, claiming that the politician in cooperation with Labour Party (LP) chiefs have been mastering plans to impeach Amosun before and in 2015 general elections.
State authorities considered that such posts could “incite the citizens against the governor”.
According to the prosecution, the mentioned acts contravened Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Volume II Laws of Ogun State 2006.
“I Hope All My Artistes Are As Successful As Wizkid” Banky W Speaks
Empire Mates Entertainment boss Banky W expressed profound desire for all his other artistes to be as successful as the Star Boi.
In a recent chat with Channels TV, Banky said he has no grouse with Wizkid for going to form his own record label Star Boi, saying it is indeed his desire for artistes to grow big enough to form their own record labels.
“I signed Wiz and he blew up. Now he is doing ‘Star Boi’ (music label) and that is a good thing. It’s not a bad thing.
The interesting thing is to allow an artist to renegotiate. Wizkid has earned the right to sit at the table to do what he wants to do and I hope all my artistes are as successful as Wizkid.” he said.
Clearing the air on any animosity between him and the Caro crooner, the Samsumg Africa ambassador opined, “”I think that people tend to make things a little more negative than they are.

Its no wonder the duo, Peter and Paul Okoye who have a large fan base are always busy cooking up something new for their fans.
Just recently, the multiple award winning twins, P-Square revealed on a radio station that they do not live with their wives.
The twin brothers who have been living together virtually all their live, during the radio programme, said their spouses stay in different places in Lagos.
This revelation caused controversty on social media as many of their fans assumed that all was not right between the brothers and their wives, considering that just a few months ago, there were reports that the duo were on the verge of breaking up.
However, when Saturday Beats contacted the singers’ publicist, Bayo Adetu, he denied that the brothers had any problems with each other.
Meanwhile another source in the singers’ camp told Saturday Beats that the brothers do not live with their wives at the moment because they are constantly in the studio working on their sixth studio album.
Already, the first three songs they released from the album are enjoying massive airplay.
“You know that P-Square are hardworking people and when they are doing their music, they strive for the best.
Most times, they are in the studio because of their new album and that is what they are concentrating on,” the source said.
The twins, Peter and Paul Okoye however added that by December 2014, they would be finally moving to their separate houses (to stay with their wives).
Meanwhile P-square have dropped their latest single ‘Ejeajo’ with Rapper, TI which is already gaining massive airplay.
Speaking on their new album, they said they have a song with Don Jazzy titled ‘Collabo’ and also featured Awilo and Jermaine Jackson on the album.
They are currently promoting their sixth album which drops on the 12th of September which will contain songs like ‘Personally’, and ‘Testimoney’ amongst others.- See more at: http://www.naijaloaded.com.ng/2014/09/06/p-square-reveals-living-wives/#sthash.xuywajI5.dpuf
I Will Probe Fayemi – Fayose Speaks
Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has said that he would look into any last minute bank transactions and appointments made by the outgoing governor, Kayode Fayemi.
He alleged that the incumbent governor is making attempt to trap his yet-to-be-inaugurated government with financial burdens.
Writing on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain also warned banks not to engage in any illegal transactions with the state government.
“We are aware of last minute deals by the present government with spurious awards of contracts and payments made — this is unfair to our people.
A transition committee is in place to work with the government (of Kayode Fayemi) for a smooth handover and also to monitor financial transactions that involve (his) government.
“Irregular expenditure and questionable financial transactions by the outgoing government should find no cooperation from commercial banks in Ekiti.
Full legal action will be brought against bank found culpable of fraudulent financial dealings with the outgoing administration. “Banks should continue to conduct government business with sincerity of purpose and compliance with the highest standards of banking integrity,” he said.
He added that the All Progressives Congress governor had embarked on employing people in the state without recourse to due process, saying he will look into the matter.
According to Fayose, the newly created local council development areas will not be funded by his government.
“A government that sacked workers on spurious grounds has now turned round to employ thousands through the backdoor – this will be looked into.
“My position on the issue of purported LCDA creation is explicitly stated: they have no constitutional backing and will not be funded. While I am mindful that my mandate does not start until October 16th, I am also mindful of the potential time bombs being put in front of me,” he stated.
Fayose however noted that he did not consider some of his opponents as enemies though they had unfairly criticised him.
He said, “We can’t fail to mention those who choose to denigrate us –we see them not as enemies but (as people who) spur (us) to greatness and humility.
Not all opponents are enemies. Some are just too far from us to understand who we really are as humans.
“Those who however choose to deliberately misunderstand our position even when clearly stated are enemies of the collective good.
Let me make this clear so that our opponents can hear: any landmine in my path as Gov-elect is a direct attack on our people in Ekiti State.”

“Beta Pikin Has Fetched Me A Billion” – Harrysong Reveals
Five star music artist, Harrysong has said he’s been counting his blessings since he released his hit single ”Beta Pikin”. He revealed this in a recent interview with Encomium Magazine where he explained how successful the single has been. Read excerpts from the interview below;
How are you basking in the success of your song Beta Pikin?
Beta Pikin is a blessing. Beta Pikin took like six months to blow, we did a lot of push and work, so I think that’s why it’s staying this long and it’s working for me. I’m enjoying it.
Did you ever imagine it will go this far?
No, we were working and hoping to get to the level of acceptance, love and success. Where we can smile and also pay off, and suddenly things started turning for good which I think it’s time for me.
How financially rewarding is the song for you?
Beta Pikin is a billion naira stuff. If I was to put together the estimate, I cannot even count, because it’s bought me different properties, it’s bought me house, cars and so many other things.
Learnt that you just acquired a brand new SUV, how did it happen?
Correct! I went to America. I went to Boston, I went for shopping for just sneakers and belts and I saw the car at the mall and they approached me and it’s a beautiful car and I paid for the car.
Caring Heart: Desmond Elliott Prays For Ini Edo To Get Pregnant
There has been a call for prayer for one of Nigeria’s finest actresses, Ini Edo, to conceive before the year runs out on one of the numerous Facebook accounts ascribed to actor, Desmond Elliot…
In the message, Nigerians were asked to say amen to the prayer that the Nollywood diva, who has put smiles on a lot of faces in the country would have a reason to smile before the year runs out.
The message reads:
“We all know actress, Ini Edo, has been married for a while now without any issue.
Many of us have laughed at her, insulted her, judged her without knowing the pains she goes through indoors. She has entertained us, made us laugh and has inspired many of us.
Today, let us come together and pray for her. Ini Edo, this year, 2014 will not pass you by, you will not only get pregnant, you will also give birth safe and sound.
As you write AMEN to this, may God answer all your hidden prayers. Why not write amen? Your amen is so powerful, just type amen on her behalf. God bless you.”
The message generated over 100,000 replies with many Nigerians saying ‘Amen’ to the prayer.
The Reason I Fought With Oyedepo And Tore His Book – Pastor Tunde Bakare
Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly in an interview speaks on the reason he fought with Bishop Oyedepo, his experience as a running mate to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at the 2011 general elections amongst other issues.
In this interview with Adeola Balogun, Nonye Ben-Nwankwo, Pastor Tunde Bakare opens up
On his take on anointing oil
People like to create their own Tunde Bakare. I love God, I love people, I love the godly and the ungodly and I try within my God-given ability to teach the truth. The reason I fought with my friend, Bishop David Oyedepo, and tore his book, I remember when we resolved this problem in London, we came out of a plane, he took me aside and said he was angry with me because I tore his book. I said I didn’t tear your book, I tore my book.
That is fine, you wrote it, I bought it, so it was my book I tore. I saw errors in that book because he said the anointing oil is not a symbol of the Holy Spirit that it is the life of God in a bottle. How can you write that and I would let it pass.
No! If the anointing oil is the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is a lamb walking on four legs. These are metaphors and when you have the real, you leave the shadow. Besides it is for the sick in the New Testament. So, you can anoint the entire church if they are sick and I would wonder how a sick church can bring healing to a dying world.
On his participation at the national conference
Number one, I didn’t select myself; I didn’t force myself on the government. I represented the South-West geo-political zone. When the elders met, they put my name down. I pleaded with them that I would not even have the time. But they insisted that they wanted me there and you don’t reject your elders if they feel you have something to contribute or they consider that you are relevant.
Two, while I was still battling with who will represent me at the conference, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, also put forward my name. At that point I decided to give it a chance. But I gave a condition and that condition was that I would not take a penny from the conference; I would not be given any allowance and I wrote a letter to that effect and they replied me. I did this so that if anything went wrong, I would retain my freedom to express myself freely. That does not mean others who took the allowance are bad people. No! We see things from different perspectives. Staying in Abuja is very expensive. I won’t tell you how much I spent but I travelled on each occasion with my research team and about three to four staff and we stayed in a suite which is quite expensive.
On if he has joined politics again
I have never joined politics. I am a nation builder, I am not a politician. I sleep well, I wake up well. I have no ambition; there is no desire to be anything in politics. All I want to see is a nation that works. If you ask me today if I am seeking any elective office, my answer will be no. I was asked to be a running mate to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, I was not looking forward to it at all. But if I am beckoned upon to do something, I will pray about it and if I see that it does not negate what I stand for and believe in, why not? The truth is that if good people don’t participate in politics, then we will continue to endure the rule of idiots.
On if asked God and was told to go ahead to be Buhari’s running mate
Several times Paul would say in the Bible that “this is I speaking but not the spirit of God even though I have the spirit of God in me.” With every sense of modesty, a man like me would not jump without looking. If you don’t look and you leap, you can leap into disaster that would backfire on you and everything you stand for in the society. When my book is out, it would be clear to all the process it took for me to be a running mate.
I sat in my house, leading a group called Arrow Heads which is already public knowledge after Mallam Nasir El-Rufai wrote about it in his book, ‘Accidental Public Servant.’ We gathered a group of Nigerians we felt could make a change in our clime. People like Oby Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Donald Duke, Nasir El-Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, Fola Adeola, Jimi Lawal, Yinka Odumakin, Jimi Agbaje, Wale Osun and a few others.
We said to ourselves that we should form the Arrow Heads to produce a change. And when I was given the privilege of being the chairperson of that group, I told them I would only accept on two conditions. Number one, that I would not join any political party and number two, I would not seek any elective office so that if there is a dispute, I can effectively resolve it. Those around me know that I have no desire for a political office but those who don’t know me think I am an opportunist.
Gen. Buhari called me on January 15 of that year and said, that he had done his own little prayers and he wanted to ask me to be his running mate. I told him I couldn’t because I lead a group and I had given them my word and that my word is my bond. I also told him that I had no desire for a political office; all I wanted to see was a change and be among those who work behind the scene. So, Gen. Buhari asked me to pray about it that he would get back to me. Within six or seven hours, he called back and I told him that I had not consulted my people. The first person I called among others was my wife and daughter and then spoke to Pastor Adeboye twice on it.
Speaking further, Pastor Tunde Bakare said
You see people don’t know things that happen behind the scene. I spoke to him twice and he said look, don’t be afraid, step in there, whether you win or lose, God is taking you somewhere. I didn’t jump because of that. I spoke to my mother and she said she had a dream about it six months before; I still didn’t jump. I thought it would be unfair not to tell Bola Tinubu because I had been brokering some things between the then Action Congress and the Congress for Progressive Change before the AC became ACN. So, I called Tinubu in the presence of Jimi Agbaje and Yinka Odumakin. I said to him that Gen. Buhari had called to offer this, give me a Christian from your group so that I can present to him. I invited the former governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo to my house and told him that he would be a better person to handle this. Both of us were in the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos at the same time. So, I looked for every way not to take Buhari’s offer and I didn’t fill the form. I took my team and went to the General and asked him why he wanted me to be his running mate. He said three things, “your passion for Nigeria. You have been a Muslim before, you are a Christian now. You have lived in the North, you were born in the South, you understand the geography and I think you can be a positive influence to pull the nation together. Number two, your integrity, number three, supposing I die in office like Yar’Adua, I want someone who would not sell out, who would still continue my vision for this country.” Still, I didn’t fill the form.
I went to El-Rufai’s house, we sat down there and he encouraged me to take it and I said I was not taking it. I told him I needed to clear a particular thing in my heart. Everyone who had been assistant to Gen. Buhari died before him. Tunde Idiagbon is gone, Okadigbo is gone, Ume-Ezeoke is gone, why do I want to go and put my head in a death sentence. I need to know what is responsible for that, so I can’t just jump, I will need to pray through. I told Gen. Buhari the same thing I am saying now.
The day before the final submission of names, former President Olusegun Obasanjo told El-Rufai that he was ready to support Buhari if he could drop me and replace me with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as his running mate. El-Rufai ran to me, that this was what Obasanjo said. The three of us were in the same hotel but in different suites. We went straight to Gen. Buhari and I said to him that breakthrough had come. I told him I had not filled the form and that there were five reasons why he must take Okonjo-Iweala. Number one, she is Delta-Igbo, you would have solved the problem of South-East/South-South. Number two, she’s a woman, you have settled the gender issue. Number three, Christian, balanced ticket. Number four, a former minister of finance and former minister of external affairs, experience which I don’t have. Number five, World Bank top executive, international exposure. Even though I have travelled round the world, I have not worked in any organisation, she is a better candidate. This is the form, I have not filled it. General Buhari looked at me and said did Obasanjo speak to you and I said no that he spoke to El-Rufai and I believe him. And he asked El-Rufai to repeat everything Obasanjo said to him and he did. He said to El-Rufai that well, you have worked with him and I have worked with him too, he would have something up his sleeves which we don’t know. Buhari turned to me and said, Pastor Bakare, I have waited long enough and today is the last day, if you are not going to fill the form, give it to me, I will look for someone until we can get a person like you. At that point, I became overwhelmed and I signed the form and El-Rufai seconded. That was the process; it was not an overnight thing.
On if he has any regrets accepting that offer
Not at all. If I have the chance, I will do it again. Buhari is an incorruptible leader. He is a man whose word is his bond. He is a reliable person and he loves this country. I don’t flatter people and you know I fought almost all military impostors in this country; there was a time I couldn’t stand any of them. But getting close to him, I realised he loves Christians as much as he loves Muslims.
For those who said why Buhari? I remember Adunni Abimbola Adelakun, she wrote why can’t Bakare run as President? Why do you have to be a running mate? I just laughed when I read that. Don’t forget that Joseph served Pharaoh, Daniel served Nebuchadnezzar, and we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, so you can maintain contact without contamination. Anything that would contribute to the wellbeing of the people of this country, as much as God gives me the grace, I would do it.
On if President Jonathan was still on a mission to ruin Nigeria as quoted in 2012
You do not separate a statement and body of facts that led to that statement. President Jonathan himself is a victim of circumstances. Who groomed him for what he is doing? I think he has had to learn on the job. Whether he is learning fast or is taking his time, is for others to comment. I marched on the streets of Abuja, Lagos, led Save Nigeria Group in different campaigns for him to become Acting President and he subsequently became the President of Nigeria.
He is alive, if I have taken a dime from him for anything, he can say. Not that they would not want to be a blessing to me but I don’t take. My hands have provided enough for me. I am contented. I have had the privilege of sitting with the President this year about five times and it is always about how to move the nation forward. I remember when the President wanted to see me; I called Gen. Buhari immediately to inform him about the invitation because I don’t double-deal. I am a loyal person and I made the President know that I informed Gen. Buhari before coming for that particular meeting. The things he said to me are not for now; they would come out at the appropriate time.
I think Jonathan is honestly doing his best but history would judge whether his best is good enough. The Nigerian issue is complex. It requires a level of capability and dynamism and that is not common among the current politicians.
On if Nigerian Churches being a Theatre applies to him
It doesn’t. I said the difference between the cinema and the church in Nigeria is that for the cinema you pay a gate fee before you enter but in the church, they let you come in before they take from you. When the youth pastor was ministering today, I said wow, if I am out of here today, these people can continue.
It would be recalled Pastor Tunde had stated his stand on the use of Anointing oil saying:
“I am not against Anointing Oil. The thing is, it’s a Jewish Culture. They rub it on their bodies as protection against insects like your mosquito repellents. It was used extensively in the old testament for anointing …It is the power of God that heals, not the Oil”.
Pastor Bakare is a former Vice Presidential candidate under the Congress for Progressive Change and Convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG).

Groom Dumps Bride At Ikoyi Registry, Escaped With Her Money
Uzor Emmanuel, a 45-year old married man with three kids played a fast one on a 42-year old lady, Victoria Adeleye at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria.
Emmanuel who had proposed to marry Adeleye at the registry dumped her at the court premises and disappeared with her N4 million. The wedding was subsequently called-off following Emmanuel’s disappearance.
Friends of the couple, who attended the wedding ceremony were left shell-shocked as marriage officials cancelled the wedding.
A source told our correspondent that the relationship between, Adeleye and Emmanuel blossomed after they met at a church in Isolo.
Unknown to Adelye, Emmanuel was married with three kids. He told her that he was still single and needed to marry since he was growing old.
Adeleye who was also eager to get a husband, showed interest and became an intimate friend with Emmanuel.
Shortly after courtship, Emmanuel proposed to marry her and she accepted. He reportedly moved into Adeleye’s flat at Bola Adeyinwa street Aswani, Isolo where they started living together as a couple without the knowledge of their pastor and members of the church.
To cover their tracks before the church, Emmanuel suggested to Adeleye they need to go to court to consummate the relationship legally.
Adeleye agreed and brought out some money with which they used to facilitate the marriage but on the day they were supposed to tie the knot, Emmanuel carried out the last of his plans.
The duo had arrived the registry with close friends but while they were waiting for court officials to commence the ceremony, Emmanuel excused himself and went outside the registry. From there he fled with her money and did not return to the hall.
The suspect was later arrested following a tip off. He then confessed that he had a wife with kids and he was only interested in Adeleye’s money.
He was charged before Isolo Magistrate’s court for obtaining under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs F.M. Kayode granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He is remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 2 October 2014 for trial.
Police sources said his wife refused to show up to facilitate his bail, saying what he did to the woman was bad.

Fish, Rice Imports Drop By 80% - Agriculture
Fish and rice imports through the nation’ seaports have dropped by over 80 per cent, the Seaport Terminal Operators of Nigeria has said.
The spokesperson of the terminal operators, Mr. Bolaji Akinola, made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Lagos on Wednesday.
He said the unfavourable government’s policies had caused importers to divert the importation of these products to Cotonou ports.
For instance, he said, “In 2010, about 112 ships of fish made up of 401,000 tonnes were handled at the Lagos Port Complex Apapa. This has been the highest volume since port concession.
“In 2013, this number reduced to 69 ships, representing a total of 220,000 tonnes of fish but from January 2014 to date, only 18 ships have been discharged with a total of 62,000 tonnes of fish. The decline is due to the quota system which became effective this year.”
The Federal Government had last year announced that fish imports would be banned in four years and the duty raised from 10 per cent to either 50 per cent or 100 per cent. The new system was said to be aimed at replacing imports with domestic production.
However, following a public outcry over the anticipated scarcity of fish, the import ban was in December 2013 replaced with a new policy to cut fish imports into the country by 25 per cent per year by introducing import quotas from January 2014.
The quota system is said to be aimed at reducing Nigeria’s frozen fish imports by 25 per cent and stopping the import of fish species such as catfish, tilapia and croaker that are produced in Nigeria through local aquaculture and capture fisheries.
Akinola said, “Even though the importation of fish through our ports has dropped, there is no scarcity of fish in the market. We now have a situation where importers are diverting their fish through Cotonou ports and then smuggle it into the country.
“It is the same situation that applies to rice imports. Annually, about two million metric tonnes of rice are handled at the ports. This volume has since fallen with the introduction of the 110 per cent import duty and levy on imported rice.
“In 2013, only 15 shiploads of rice were discharged at our ports; this amounted to 386,000 tonnes. From January to August 2014, the volume has remained very scanty – about 135,000 tonnes so far with only about seven ships coming into the ports.
“Yet when you go to the market, you see rice everywhere. While Nigeria is charging 10 per cent as import duty, another 100 per cent levy is imposed on rice, it is zero duty in Cotonou. This is the reason why our importers are patronising neighbouring ports, especially Cotonou, and then smuggle these goods into the country; Nigeria is losing.”
Akinola said terminal operators that specalised in bulk cargo operations such as rice and fish imports had been most hit by the policy.
He said that the terminal operators had since the port concession invested over $925m in improving infrastructure at the terminals.
Despite improving the level of port operations, he lamented that the port terminal operators were losing business.
He said though the volume of car imports which the Nigerian Ports Authority released in the first half of 2014 report was high, it would drop in the second half of the year.
A total of 154,846 vehicles reportedly imported in the first half of this year, which showed an increase of 16.5 per cent over the same period of 2013 with 132,930 vehicles.
He said, “What really happened was that some car importers in anticipation of the new auto policy had imported many vehicles; I know of a company that imported about 10,000 units. That is why the volume was high for the first half of 2014.
“Now that the auto policy has come to stay, its effect would be felt in the NPA’s second half 2014 report because importers are already diverting vehicle imports through Cotonou.”

Africa’s Largest Economy, Nigeria, Drops In Global Competitiveness Ranking
Now 127th in the world
Despite Nigeria’s current status as Africa’s largest economy, the country slumped in the global competitiveness ranking released on Tuesday.
Africa’s biggest oil producer fell by seven places to 127th position.
According to the 2014-15 Global Competitiveness Report, infrastructure (human and physical) continues to be Nigeria’s toughest challenges.
The report attributed the decline in Nigeria’s global competitiveness “to weakness in public finances (as a result of lower oil exports), continuing institutional frailty and deterioration in national security.”
The outcome, the report said “are similarly mixed for other middle-income countries in the region.
Lesotho (107th) and Cape Verde (114th) registered the largest improvements, while Botswana (74th), Namibia (88th), Zambia (96th), Ghana (111th), Senegal (112th) and Swaziland (123rd) are relatively stable.
Among the oil-exporting economies, Gabon is the highest-ranked economy (106th) followed by Cameroon (116th), Nigeria, Angola (140th) and Chad (143rd).
Among Africa’s low-income economies, Ethiopia recorded the biggest leap, rising nine places to 118th.
The report stated that only three sub-Saharan countries – Mauritius (39th); South Africa (56th) and Rwanda (62nd) are in the top half of the world’s most competitive economies.

Don Jazzy Reacts to Rumour of Him Spending N200million on Cars
An article by The Vanguard, which claimed the Mavins CEO had spent over N200 million on cars, didn’t sit well with him.
The report said,
Although he is perceived to be a calm person, this has not stopped his love for beautiful exotic cars. He was seen cruising in a Porsche which is valued at over N22m. His other car is a Bentley which cost him about N65m to purchase amongst others. He recently took a photograph of his Bentley and uploaded it with a tweet; he described it as “one of his most expensive cars”. Another report has it that he has another car which cost him about N150m to purchase.
Don Jazzy reacted to the report with irritation, saying “The way we dey write news sometimes sef i wonder. just read that i bought a car 150m and dat my bentley is 65m. ahhh

Boko Haram Sponsorship Allegation, My Story By Modu Sheriff - Politics
Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff has denied claims by
Australian negotiator, Rev. Stephen Davis that he is one of the major
sponsors of the sect.
Sheriff said he was instead one of the first victims of Boko Haram and that the Jihadist group started before his tenure as Governor.
He spoke in an interview with New Telegraph.
His words: “The Boko Haram war as we know it today, started in 2002 in Yobe State. The first attack of Boko Haram was in 2002 in Kanama, from there they ran to Borno State. And in 2002, where was I? I wasn’t a governor. There was a sitting governor in Borno State, and there was Boko Haram. They ran away from Kanama and moved to Gwoza hill.
“But come to think of it, who is Mohammed Yusuf ( first leader of the group)? Yusuf had been in Maiduguri, doing his preaching and later taken to court by the Federal Government, and prosecuted in Abuja, ever before I became a governor. And who was the first casualty of Boko Haram in Borno State? It is me.
“I was the first victim of Boko Haram in Borno State. In their first attack, they killed my brother, the same father and mother with me. That was when they fought with the military in Borno.
“The first casualty was me. Then, they killed my cousin. They killed my candidate for governorship; they killed my party chairman. Two of them were direct relations of mine. Why did they do that? Because I made a law prohibiting Boko Haram in the domain of Borno State.
“The law said anybody practising or associated with what Boko Haram was doing, was banned by law from so doing, and if caught, will be prosecuted and jailed for 25 years.”
Sheriff said Davis’s allegations were baseless and senseless.
“The man that purportedly gave the interview said he was an Australian, who said he came to Nigeria, and spoke to Boko Haram. I thought that really, if he is a professional mediator or negotiator, or whatever he calls himself, his report would have been given to the security agencies of Nigeria. That is number one. Number two, also, if at all he spoke to Boko Haram, before making his views public, he should have known that I have a right of reply. He should have asked for my reaction or views on his findings, because I am a Nigerian, I am in Nigeria, I didn’t go anywhere. Number three, I was the governor of Borno State for eight years”.

INEC Suspends 2 Eos Over Alleged Manipulation Of Osun Gov Poll - Politics
Two Electoral Officers who supervised the last governorship election in Osun state have been suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC over alleged electoral fraud during the exercise.
The suspended officers according to reliable sources are messres Fabunmi F.T and Esinoye A.O who were said to have allegedly colluded with the All Progressive Congress APC to manipulate electoral process in favour of the party in Osogbo and Obokun local government councils respectively.
Credible sources at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo, told our correspondent that the “development is the outcome of preliminary investigation by the INEC National Commissioners, who were deployed by the commission to supervise the August 9 governorship election in Osun”.
According to one of the sources, who pleaded for anonymity on the matter said, “the two Electoral Officers are suspended to create enough room for thorough investigation into electoral offences leveled against them. After the investigation must have been concluded, appropriate legal action if need be would commence to punish them for the misdemeanor”.
“The two affected officers were part of EOs that participated in the distribution and collection of sensitive electoral materials in Osogbo and Obokun local governments during the August 9, 2014 gubernatorial election. They were accused of allegedly selling blank ballot papers to the APC and manipulating form EC8 Series to favour APC, voiding PDP votes “, the source added.
When contacted the INEC National Commissioner, who supervised the election, Ambassador Mohammed Wali confirmed the development, saying that the two affected EOs are currently under suspension, pending the outcome of investigation into issues raised against them.

‘yes Means Yes” The New Sex Law Of California - Foreign Affairs
California Passes ‘Yes Means Yes’ Law
Here’s some uplifting news to read before you leave for your long weekend: California just became the first state to pass a ‘Yes Means Yes’ bill that would require all state-funded colleges and universities to adopt “affirmative consent” language in their definitions of consensual sex, Yahoo! News reports.
The California senate unanimously passed the bill in May, and it’s now set to be signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown. The law defines intimate consent between people as “affirmative, conscious, and voluntary agreement to engage in intimate activity.” In other words, silence or a lack of resistance do not count as consent, and drugs and alcohol will not (not that they ever should) excuse unwanted intimate activity or touching.
Governor Brown must sign the bill into law by September 30th, and if he does, it would be the first time a state would require such strong language to be a part of a school’s intimate assault policies, Claire Conlon, a spokesperson for Senator Kevin de Leon—who championed the bill—told Yahoo!.
We love this idea, not only because it seems to do away with the old “No means no” mentality, but because it champions enthusiastic consent between students. Hopefully, it’ll encourage all parties involved to stand up for themselves and talk about what they’re comfortable with. There’s nothing sexier or healthier than two people who really know what they want and aren’t afraid to say it.

Military Deploys Armoured Tanks To Borno, Adamawa, Yobe - Politics
In what looked like a move to reinforce the troops fighting Boko Haram terrorists in North-eastern Nigeria, the Nigerian army Monday night deployed over 30 armoured tanks to Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States that were recently ordered by the federal government to crush the insurgency.
THISDAY confirmed the movement of about two trailer loads of over 30 tanks around 9 pm along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.
This is just as the Borno youth vigilantes, popularly known as the Civilian JTF, yesterday dispelled reports that Boko Haram terrorists had taken over Bama, the second largest town in Borno State, stating that it was the insurgents, who had recorded major casualties during their fight with the military on Monday, losing 130 members with 35 others arrested.
The insurgents, who had launched an early dawn raid on Bama, were repelled by the military and prevented from entering Maidugri, the state capital.
The tanks, which looked rusty with the “UN” inscription on them, appeared to have been offloaded recently from the seaports and were heading towards the north.
Efforts to get confirmation from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Defence Headquarters (DHQ) were futile as their spokespersons could not be reached.
However, an intelligent officer who spoke to THISDAY on the issue said the tanks were disguised with the UN insignia on them in order to conceal their place of origin.
In May this year, ABC News, an American television network, had reported that the federal government, through ONSA, had hired a powerful Washington lobbyist to press its case for the release of intelligence on Boko Haram and to persuade the Barack Obama administration to donate non-lethal equipment.
The report stated that two months before Boko Haram was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) by the US in November 2013, ONSA signed a $3 million-a-year contract with K Street firm Patton Boggs to “provide comprehensive security advice, including the donation of excess military and law enforcement equipment”, according to documents filed with the US Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Patton Boggs was also reported to have asked for non-lethal protective hardware to be donated to Nigeria such as mine-resistant armoured personnel vehicles, night vision goggles and communications equipment from Iraq and Afghanistan stockpiles left over from the US’ war in the countries.
Meanwhile, the Borno youth vigilante group has dispelled news reports that the Boko Haram insurgents had taken control of Bama.
They said instead, it was the group that suffered massive casualties during the gun battle with the military on Monday, losing 130 persons with 35 others arrested.
At a press briefing in Maiduguri, spokesman of the Civilian JTF, who is also the legal adviser to the group, Mr. Jibrin Gunda, said: “We categorically refute the statement credited to Senator Ahmed Zanna, the senator representing Borno Central on the BBC Hausa service that Boko Haram had captured Bama.
“News has filtered most especially on foreign media to which we want to clearly state that our security personnel are doing their best and yesterday our gallant soldiers successfully repelled the insurgents that attacked Bama.
“Bama as a town in Borno State has never been overrun or overtaken by the insurgents even for a minute, even as of now our soldiers are in full control of the town.

Confirmed: Side bosom, YOLO, Cray Are Now English Words - Literature
C’mon! Showing some side bosoms doesn’t make you cray. After all, YOLO! The words, Side bosom, Cray, YOLO have now become English words following the announcement made recently by Oxford Dictionaries on their website.
Pundits say the latest intake is a reflection of how social media languages and slangs are affecting the English Language. Some of the words include, humblebrag which refers to a comment made by someone who boasts about an achievement in the same sentence as a self depreciating comment, adorbs, an adjective for something cute or adorable and YOLO which is an acronym for You Only Live Once.
Others are listicle, bro hug, cray, hench, hot mess, mansplain, side-eye, side bosom and spit-take. The new entries mentioned above have however only been added to OxfordDictionaries.com, not the Oxford English Dictionary.

Lagos-To-Calabar Railway Line Approved By FG - Sambo
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday announced that the Federal Government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a new railway line that will run from Lagos to Calabar and also extend to the Obudu Cattle Ranch.
The President made the announcement when he performed the groundbreaking of the second cement line being constructed by the United Cement Company of Nigeria Limited in Mfamosing, Akamkpa Local Government Council of Cross River State.
This came just as Chairman of the Board of UniCem, Mr. John Coumantaros, said the additional 2.5-million-metric-tonne per annum line would be constructed at the cost of N84bn, adding that the project, which is expected to be completed in 2016, would bring the production capacity of the company to five million metric tonnes per annum.
Jonathan, who was represented by Vice- President Namadi Sambo, said it was commendable that barely five years after UniCem unveiled its first line of 2.5 million metric tonnes, the company had already concluded plans to double its production capacity.
He said, “In 2002, the Federal Government formulated the backward integration policy for the cement industry to facilitate Nigeria’s drive in self-sufficiency for cement production. It should be noted that within a decade, there had been a phenomenal growth from two million metric tonnes per annum to 39.5 million metric tonnes per annum of installed capacity.
“We are impressed that just five years after the first line in UniCem, we are gathered here again today for the second line, which will add 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum to the company’s capacity. This is ample growth of operational efficiency and the resilience of the management of UniCem.
Speaking on the proposed railway line from Lagos to Calabar, Jonathan said, “Indeed, I will like to state that very soon, the 550 megawatts station will be inaugurated. Also, on the railway line, I am also glad to inform you that the Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a new railway line from Lagos to Calabar has been signed, and we hope that any moment from now, work will commence.

Cyla Simpson's Defense Of Anita Oyakhilome
Revelation From Anita Oyakilome's Close Friend
In the wake of the divorce proceedings between Chris and Anita Oykahilome, there have various reports by church
members of the Christ Embassy International. The latest is from a founding church member, Cyla Simpson who took
to the controversial Facebook page to talk about the Anita Oyakhilome. According to her, ” I am writing this to
everyone with a heavy heart. It is heart wrenching to see the way people are referring to Rev Anita and how
uncultured people are while talking. You don’t need to be derogatory or condescending to express yourself no matter
your level as a christian. First I would join true Christians around the world to appeal to Rev Anita but would say
listen to God rather than man.
“I want to appeal to everyone to please pause and think deep because whatever a man sow, he shall surely reap. This
is like beating a child like Ibo elders will say and still take the tears from the child. Take a step aside and think. Is
there a woman who will give up her home on flimsy excuse, if no why are we so callous and insensitive in this
matter. I am a married woman and so are many reading this, or you have a mother, a sister or daughter. If you are
happy for them to go through whatever brought Rev Anita to this level please continue with your judgemental
approach towards her. And the God of truth will visit everyone with same except if there was no cause. Amen!!!
“I have read some accusing her of money and power motivation. PLEASE LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE PASTOR
ANITA I KNOW AS MOST OF YOU YOUNG ONES IN NIGERIA DO NOT HAVE MUCH OF AN ENCOUNTER WITH HER.
Rev Anita has been my pastor for about 13 years now. I am one of the founding members of her church and I have
seen her grow a church from using all any available venue while planting more churches in faith sending her best
member out to start a new church, from two churches in England has grown to churches in almost every borough and
cities. Rev Anita will see anyone and everyone regardless of your status.
“If she ever kept you waiting, she will apologise profusely throughout the meeting and make it good to you. Rev Anita
without an office will still counsel us even in her car on Wednesday night after church yet she has 1hour 30mins drive
back home with 2 young girls. For so long she was driving a volkswagon golf until 2005 that we bought her a BMW
X3 and she still refused to drive it for many months until she was begged to use it so that we can be blessed. She
used the same car until 2010/2011 and the replacement she had then is still what she used till her last day in church
last year.
“We begged her to come around for us to celebrate her birthday but she will still go into hiding. On her return the
little song we will do for her, she will return it to Rev Chris in thanksgiving. Any money you give her she sends it
straight to church account or Loveworld TV. If we ever raise money for her birthday she ask us to go and use it for
evangelism or send it to Loveworld TV. When you give her any material thing, regardless of the shop you purchased it,
she will use it for you to see and thank you as long as she sees you for the gift.
“At Christmas, while service was on up to 2013 christmas she will give almost everyone in church gift. Foodstuff will
be dropped at your side as service. She will specially take care of the elderly, help you settle down when you arrive in
the country. No barren left without children as she will make it her project until it happens. So how come people came
up with this terrible accusation. You accused her of being rude to some CEC members. Wow. This is wicked. First for
so long, she was the Vice President and others have other positions. I thought husband and wife are one.
“She raised 2 girls in this society and the 2 girls are admirable, humble, down-to-earth children. They are children
not a reflection of the home they grew. Pastor Chris was not around. He came to our church on Fathers’ Day
sometimes ago and he told us one of the daughters’ requested for it as her birthday gift – how touching and how she
treasures her dad’s presence. She could ask for material thing but she asked for his presence and we all are here
judging them. I remember these girls will politely beg me to allow them carry my baby and they will play with him
and when they bring him back, they will thank me for letting them carry him and I’m surprised because I should thank
them for helping me. And they do same to other mothers in the mothers’ area where we sit in church. Is it not what
they saw their mum do, they are not class-freak.
“I remember that visit of Pastor, Rev Tom talking said we may not value what we have. That she is the grace in the
CEC. If they all condemn someone, she will see a good reason to embrace the person and she has always been right.
Rev Chris said at one IPPC that most changes we see here in the ministry, she in her simple way brought them and
that was the day he spoke about how she talked about the effort we put into publicity of programme but that same or
more should be put in telling what the Lord did in that programme when its over. So what changed now, because she
is asking for a change.
“I have read all the messages here by some writers, the news is all over our church and I have taken my time to find
out what is really happening and to the much available, below are the things Rev Anita is asking for:
- She told Rev Chris that you are such an organised person, you give us almost a full year calendar on Dec 31st of
every year, please put the family in the timetable too. The times you don’t have any engagement, please come home.
I need you and the children need you. Please bear in mind she has been here since 1999 and she was just about 30
years old then as a married woman with 2 children. So for almost 16 years of her marriage, no husband at home for
straight 1 week, no dad at home for the children. No christmas, yet he has party with the staff that we all watch at
Christmas. Even Jesus always withdrew from the crowd to fellowship with his father.
- She asked Rev Chris that on hearing of the immorality, ‘not holding it against you but let all these ladies move out
of White House and go and get houses outside. They are rich enough to buy houses at their place of choice if they
don’t already have one and allow them marry. Who benefits from this choice, is it not everyone? So which is her
offence in this. And Rev Chris did not agree to it. The brothers even said they went to have meeting with him in South
Africa to beg him to at least meet her half-way but he refused. 2 public responses are the emergency Bible study
after their meeting with him titled – Spirit of Error and Spirit of Truth, please flash back at this meeting or relisten to
it and after so much call in the UK for him to produce our mother, he had meeting with our pastors and deacons in
May and it is recorded that many left the meeting weeping for the way he described our mother that some have had
lifetime experience with.”
